Principal’s Office

From our Principal

Dear San Martin/Gwinn Community,

Welcome to 2017-2018 school year at SMG! I hope that you all had a wonderful and restful summer! I am looking forward to a new year at our Environmental Science Academy filled with tons of learning, environmental science experiments and projects, adventures, and new memories that will last a life time! Our Environmental Science Academy welcomes our new Middle School Teacher, Cortney Woodward. Our DIME (Dual Immersion Multicultural Education) program also welcomes back Cecilia Robins and Hector Almaraz, from our teacher visiting program from Mexico.

Shannon Rafat has been assigned as our assistant principal for our Dual Immersion program, and I am looking forward to continue working with her on this new role. Our students, program, and community will benefit from all her knowledge and leadership skills.

This year, we will continue to provide our students with hands-on activities and project based learning that will help them prepared for the 21st century work force. Our professional learning community will continue designing lessons that facilitate collaboration, communication, and creativity in the classroom, reinforcing leadership skills in our children. As a school, we will focus on PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Support). We will continue to work this year in reinforcing the six pillars of character: responsibility, caring, respect, trustworthiness, and fairness. Help us work on these at home, too.

On August 16th, our Home and School Club will sponsor an Ice Cream Social form 5:30p.m. to 6:30p.m. in the cafeteria. Spirit ware will be available for purchase. Please come and join us! This will be a great time for us to mingle and talk about our summer. School starts this year on August 17th at 7:45a.m. Student safety and minimizing instructional interruptions are among our highest priorities. Please follow safety procedures when entering and exiting campus, be sure that all students are on time, but do not arrive before 7:30a.m. Please comply with drop off/pick up, parking and Curbside procedures, and refrain from entering the classroom areas after instruction has begun. Parents and guardians must check in the office and receive a visitor’s badge before entering campus. Thanks for your support with this matter, and don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns at olacireguic@mhusd.org. Have a wonderful rest of the summer!
