Principal’s Message ~ Oficina del Director

Dear San Martin/Gwinn Community,

Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year at SMG! We are incredibly excited to have our students back on campus for full-time, in-person instruction.  This year, we will begin by focusing on the social and emotional needs of our students as our community comes together again.  Many of our students have not been on campus since March of 2020, so we will be intentional in our efforts to support our students toward academic success and social-emotional wellbeing.

On the first day of school, August 12, 2021, parents/guardians are welcome to walk their children to the line where the teachers will pick them up to take them to class. (See map on the school website under “Back to School Information.”)  If you plan to walk your child, please park in the lot on the North Street side of the school.  We appreciate your patience during drop-off as we navigate the first few days of school.  We will have staff and signage to help direct students and families to their lineup locations.  For dismissal, our staff will escort students to their pick-up locations.  If you have students in multiple grades, please drop-off at the lowest grade level location.  Below is additional important information:

Masks will be required indoors, regardless of vaccination status.  If your child has a medical exemption, please contact the front office.

  • Supply lists are posted on the website.  Teachers will provide more detailed supply lists after the first day of school.

  • Classroom assignments will be posted in the front office on the glass and on signs on the Llagas side of the school at 4:00 pm on August 10, 2021.

  • A map of drop-off and pick-up locations is posted on the website.

  • Instruction begins daily at 7:45 am.  Kinders have early release at 11:45 am on 8/12 & 8/13.  The school bell schedule is also posted on the website.

We plan to continue to communicate frequently and with fidelity as we did last school year, so please reach out to me at aasena@mhusd.org or 408-201-6480 if you have any questions or need additional support.  We look forward to seeing everyone soon!

 Sincerely,

 Alex Aasen, Principal
